Great Wall

today we saw the great wall of china, mutianyu. It was out of the way and expensive, but so worth it. it was very breathtaking. hiking the wall and admiring the backdrop took up a good portion of our day. tonight we went to nanluoguxiang, a very modernized and busy hutong (basically an alleyway off the main roads) that had tons of head shops, bars, eating stands and souvenir shops. there was an abundance of everything and it was really cool to go looking through. despite all that, it was basically a way less sketchy version of the hutongs surrounding our hostel. I mean these things are all over the place in this city.

all in all we really enjoyed beijing, it's so different in every way from any other place we've been. if I were to sum the city up, this is how I would do it: earlier today we saw large groups of people ballroom dancing to electronic music in the middle of a public park. that's beijing. beijing is nuts. I like it.
