Kowloon and Stanley Market

Today we traveled on the star ferry to Kowloon.  In Kowloon we had American food that I can honestly say was better than much of the food I have to eat in America.  after we ate we walked around Kowloon a bit and saw an amazing view of the skyline of Hong Kong.  After going back on the ferry we got haircuts at an amazing barbershop.  To say the very least I was not overjoyed at the idea of a haircut but it was a good experience overall.  After the haircuts we traveled to Stanley Market and walked past tons of amazing shops.  Me, Jacob, and both of our cousins bought bracelets at one shop in the market. Next we walked over to Stanley Plaza where live music was being played which I personally enjoyed.  To finish our day we had a delicious dinner of Vietnamese food at a restaurant in Stanley Plaza. I would say it was a very good day.

Lantau Island

Among other things, today we went to Lantau Island. We took a really scenic ride up by cable car and visited the Tai O fishing village and the Tian Tan Buddha. Other than the terrible smell, the fishing village was really cool.. between the wild dogs walking through the streets, the old women and men riding bicycles in straw hats, the endless vendors selling everything from blowfish to the "local delicacy", and the temple in the middle of the place that smelled so strongly of incense that you could temporarily forget about the smell of fish. The Tian Tan Buddha just blew our minds, getting close to it was numbing and the views at the top of the flight of stairs to it were amazing. After leaving Lantau, we had a very nice dinner where we feasted on Shanghai style dumplings and duck! Pictured below are me, my brother, and our cousin Rex as we climbed the steps to the Buddha.

Finally here!

Yeah... today pretty much looked as pictured. 2 hour flight to chicago followed by a 16 hour flight to hong kong. But we made it!! At our uncle's place, who by the way lives down the street from the richest man in hong kong. No big deal though :D
